"Simplicity is very complicated"

Following a period of apprenticeship from 1982 to 1987 at the studio of painter Simon Shahrigian in Cairo, Egypt, in 1992 he graduated from the sculpture department in the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Cairo and in 1997 he obtained an Assistant Researcher Scholarship, teaching in the Faculty of Fine Arts until 2000. Currently he lives and works in  Pietrasanta, where he directly cuts his sculptures at Studio Sem Scultori Associati, preferring granite and basalt. He has created other works at the laboratories Rossi Pio, Scultori Associati and at the Fonderia Versiliese.

Among his many exhibitions, noteworthy are: his participation in 1997 at the "Autumn Salon", Cairo; the group exhibition "Young Egyptian Artists Artists" at the Egyptian Academy in Rome in 2001; the solo exhibition at the Center of Art Ekhnaton I Gallery, Cairo in 2005; "Lo spirito della pietra", at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome in 2005; the solo exhibition at the Centro Culturale "Luigi Russo" in Pietrasanta in 2005; the solo exhibition in Copenaghen in 2006.

Since 1998 he has participated in several symposiums: "Genzgenger International Sculpture Symposium", Braun, Austria 1998; "International Sculpture Symposium", Aswan, Egypt 2000; "International Sculpture Symposium", Comblain-au pont, Belgium 2002; "Icheon International Sculpture Symposium", South Korea 2004.

His works are present in public and private locations, among which the Egyptian Modern Art Museum, Cairo 1997, 1999, 2000; City Hall of Braunau, Austria 1998; El Karor Square, Aswan, Egypt 1998; Al Ahram Foundation, Cairo 1999; Aswan Open Air Museum, Egypt 2000; Open Air Museum of St. Martin Park, Comblain-au-pont, Belgium 2001; Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Ltd. ("Mariner of the Sea"), United States 2002; Icheon City, South Korea 2004; Landmark Mandarin Hotel, Central, Hong Kong 2005.

He received the "Sculpture Prize", Salon of Small Format, Cairo 1998; "Prix de Rome", State Award for Artistic Creativity, Rome 2000-2001; "Second Prize", Biennale Internazionale d'Arte Contemporanea di Firenze 2001.
