Biography

Son of a marble artisan, he attended Franco Miozzo’s studio from an early age, who also taught him at the Stagio Stagi Art Institute of Pietrasanta, where he qualified as Maestro d'Arte in 1962. After a short work experience as a designer, he resumed his studies and attended the Fine Arts Academy of Carrara in Sculpture, under the guide of Carlo Sergio Signori in 1965; then, thanks to a scholarship as Best Student in Sculpture, he moved to the Florence Academy where he completed his studies in 1969. For several years he attended the studios of Sem Ghelardini and Franco Cervietti in Pietrasanta and of Giorgio Angeli in Querceta.

In 1970 he began teaching, first at the Liceo Artistico in Lucca (Figurative Arts and Decorative Sculpture), then at the Istituto d'Arte in Pietrasanta (Plastic Disciplines, 1974). From 1980 he was appointed Headmaster of the Art Schools of Massa, Parma, Siena and finally Pietrasanta, where he has been working since 1992. In 1993 he was elected Town Councillor and Councillor for Public Education of Pietrasanta. In 1985 he held an important solo exhibition at the Galleria Aretusa in Parma and in 1991 he created the commemorative medal to celebrate 750 years of Siena University. From 1973 he has displayed his works in several group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including: Galleria 33, Lucca 1971; "Mostra Internazionale di Scultura", Lucca 1973; Salon de Mai, Paris 1976; "Maestri e Allievi" 1992 and "Segni nel tempo" 1993, Istituto Statale d'Arte, Siena; "Documento Arte 2000" 2000, Centro internazionale di cultura e spiritualita Frà Benedetto, Sillico di Pieve Fosciana, Lucca; Museo della Carta, Pescia 2000; "Artisti per S. Caterina" 2006, Chiostro di S. Domenica, Siena; Biennale Nazionale Arte Sacra, Pistoia 2006; "L'alchimia dei quattro elementi scolpiti" 2006, S. Giovanni in Persiceto, Bologna.

He has taken part in many exhibitions in the Apuan-Versilia area, several of which in Pietrasanta: "III mostra d'arte collettiva", Chiostro San Francesco 1972; "Artisti e Artigiani in un cento storico" 1975, 1976; "Scultori e Artigiani in un cento storico" 1977, 1978; solo exhibition, L. Russo Cultural Centre 1985; "Il disegno degli scultori" 1988, L. Russo Cultural Centre; "150 anni dell'Istituto Statale d'Arte S. Stagi" 1992, L. Russo Cultural Centre; "Studi Aperti in Versilia" 1995; "I colori della vita" 1999, L. Russo Cultural Centre 1999; "Una carta dipinta" 2002; and in nearby areas: "Mostra del marmo", competition, Carrara (I Prize, 1961); "Rassegna Internazionale di scultura" 1973, Hotel Royal, Viareggio; "Artisti Versiliesi" 1983, Villa Delatre, Seravezza; solo exhibition, Villa Le Pianore, Camaiore 1997; "Flora Artificiale in un Parco Naturale" 1998, Villa Schiff, Montignoso, Massa; solo exhibition, S. Anna, Stazzema, Lucca 1998; "La Badia" 1999, Camaiore; "Amor marmoris" 2005, Levigliani. He creates his works in his own studio, at the Giorgio Angeli, Franco Cervietti, Studio Sem and Giovanni Vecoli laboratories and at the Da Prato and Bronzarte foundries.
